How do I let my co-pilot handle the comms?

YES! We now support the ability to turn the comms over to your co-pilot while at cruise.

To activate this feature:

  1. Choose a Co-Pilot: Choose a co-pilot as your intercom passenger by going to settings, then intercom, selecting channel-1 (or channel-2), and picking a co-pilot.
  2. Assign a PTT Button to the Intercom:  Go to settings, controls, and map a button to be your Intercom-Channel-1 PTT (or channel-2, depending on where you put your co-pilot).
  3. Tell the co-pilot to handle the comms:  Once you're in the air, just squeeze your intercom PTT button and say, "You handle the comms now".

The co-pilot will now automatically respond to handover requests, change frequencies, and check-in with the next controller!

A few things to keep in mind:

  • This is a BETA feature and may not work properly! We anticipate full support by Sep 30 2024.

  • This is IFR only. (VFR workload typically doesn't require a co-pilot).

  • The co-pilot can only handle comms using COM1.

  • The co-pilot can only handle read-backs and check-ins.

  • The co-pilot cannot fly the plane.

  • The co-pilot cannot handle checklists.  (The comms delay by using the AI would make this a very slow and frustrating experience, but we'll likely add it as the tech improves over the next 12 months).

  • This only works while you're in the air.  Many pilots like to turn control of the comms over to the co-pilot once they enter the runway, and then take control back once they touch-down.

  • The only exception to the above, is that the co-pilot can call and get your IFR clearance for you, if you ask them to. They'll even read it back!

Also, if you plan to be away from the simulator for an extended period of time while you're at cruise, you can also just close the app, while you're away. Re-opening the app will resume your flight from wherever you happen to be.
