Q: What is Ground Crew and Pushback?

A: Ramp agents, also known as ground crew, are essential airport personnel working on the tarmac (or ramp) to ensure aircraft operations run smoothly. They handle tasks like connecting the jetway for passenger boarding, operating pushback tugs to position aircraft for taxiing, loading and unloading luggage, and ensuring the aircraft is ready for departure. Their coordination and expertise keep flights on schedule and ensure safety on the ground.

Q: How do I talk to the ground crew?

A: All communications are done on your VHF COM Radio, using frequency 119.99.  (You will need to set your radio to 8.33khz spacing to access this frequency).

Q: How do I enable ground crew?

A: Ground crew is enabled by default and available by calling them on 119.99.

Q: How do I request push-back?

A:

  1. Request a Tug
When you're ready at the gate, make your request to the ramp team. For example:
“Flight deck to ground, please connect the tug at gate 4.”

  2. Tug Connection
The ramp team will connect the tug and let you know when the bypass pin (used for steering control) has been inserted. They’ll also wait for you to confirm when you’re ready to begin.

  3. Coordination with ATC
Before starting, it’s good practice to check in with ATC at your airport to request “push and start” clearance. Once approved, let the ramp team know you’re ready for pushback. They’ll instruct you to release the parking brake and inform you which direction your nose will face upon completion.

  4. Pushback and Engine Start
Once pushback begins, the ramp agent will notify you when it’s safe to start your engine(s).

  5. Disconnecting the Tug
When the pushback is complete, the ramp agent will ask you to set your parking brake and confirm readiness for disconnection. After removing the bypass pin and disconnecting the tug, they’ll give you the all-clear to begin taxiing.

Q: How do I manage the jetway?

A: Its as easy as asking for the jetway to be connected or disconnected on 119.99!

Q: Does this replace GSX?

A: While this does replace the push-back capability of GSX, it is nor our intention to compete with or displace GSX.  GSX has dozens of features that we are not planning to support. (Highly detailed vehicle models, passengers, etc.)

Q: Will you be adding <new feature here> ?

A: Stay tuned!
