Career Progression & Achievements

 How does rank progression work?

You progress by flying missions and logging hours. Every flight earns career points that advance your rank in one of three categories:

  • VFR (Visual Flight Rules)

  • IFR (Instrument Flight Rules)

  • SkyOps (Special Emergency Operations: Search, SAR, Firefighting only)

Each category has its own rank ladder, and your overall profile shows your standing in all three.

What are the VFR ranks?

Progression is based on VFR flight hours:

  • Discovery Student — 0 hrs

  • Student Pilot — 2 hrs

  • Student Solo Pilot — 6 hrs

  • Solo Pilot — 15 hrs

  • Veteran Pilot — 30 hrs

  • Instructor — 75 hrs

  • Chief Instructor — 200 hrs

  • Senior Chief Instructor — 500 hrs

  • Command Instructor — 1,000 hrs

  • Senior Command Instructor — 2,000 hrs

What are the IFR ranks?

Progression is based on IFR flight hours:

  • Student Pilot — 0 hrs

  • Second Officer — 3 hrs

  • Senior Second Officer — 10 hrs

  • First Officer — 25 hrs

  • Senior First Officer — 50 hrs

  • Captain — 150 hrs

  • Senior Captain — 400 hrs

  • Fleet Captain — 800 hrs

  • Master Fleet Captain — 1,500 hrs

  • Chief Fleet Captain — 2,600 hrs

What are the SkyOps ranks?

Progression is based on missions completed in emergency operations only:
Eligible missions: Search, Search & Rescue (SAR), Firefighting

Ranks & mission requirements:

  • Cadet — 0 missions

  • Second Lieutenant — 3 missions

  • Lieutenant — 5 missions

  • Captain — 10 missions

  • Major — 16 missions

  • Squadron Leader — 24 missions

  • Wing Commander — 34 missions

  • Sky Marshal I — 55 missions

  • Sky Marshal II — 80 missions

  • Sky Marshal III — 105 missions

SkyOps missions also credit IFR or VFR progression, depending on how the mission is flown.

What stats are tracked?

Your profile automatically records:

  • Total flight hours (with VFR/IFR breakdown)

  • Airports visited

  • Landing performance

  • Career points and unlocked achievements

  • Recent flight history with live tracking

Can I share my profile?

Yes! Every pilot gets a public profile page you can share with friends and the flight sim community:

What’s coming next?

Soon, your public profile page will let others:

  • Follow and track your flight live

  • Hear your comms in real time

  • Watch you on a moving map

  • See your full flight telemetry

Getting Started

  1. Enable your public profile in the Pilot Portal

  2. Customize your Pilot ID Badge with your photo and details

  3. Share your QR code with friends and the community

Whether you’re climbing the ranks in IFR, perfecting landings under VFR, or flying emergency SkyOps missions, your progress is always recorded. This is your career, your identity, and your aviation story — all in one place.

Leaderboards

Are there leaderboards for ranks and hours?

Yes! Leaderboards are available for each category:

  • VFR flight hours

  • IFR flight hours

  • SkyOps missions

How are leaderboards tracked?

  • Yearly Leaderboards: Track totals from January 1 through December 31.

  • Quarterly Leaderboards: Reset every 3 months for short-term competition.

Leaderboards update automatically throughout the day (every 4 hours) so you can always see where you stand.

Do leaderboards affect my rank?

No. Leaderboards are separate from rank progression. They are a way to compare your performance against other pilots in the community — whether for bragging rights, friendly competition, or just personal motivation.

 Other Questions!

Will I lose rank if my account expires?

No. You will always keep you rank!

Do simulator crashes or incomplete flights count toward progression?

No. Only completed flights that successfully land are eligible for rank progression and achievement credit.

Can I rank up in multiple categories at the same time?

Yes! For example, flying a SkyOps SAR mission under IFR will progress both SkyOps and IFR ranks simultaneously. However, You won't rank up VFR and IFR at the same time.

Do I need a Premium account to rank up?

Yes. The Gate 404 Club is for Premium users only, not Entourage.
