Editing Basics: Points/Parking

Created by SayIntentions Support, Modified on Mon, 21 Oct at 4:21 AM by SayIntentions Support

This mode allows your to define Points of Interest both at the Airport and Visual Reporting Points nearby. Additionally, it allows you to rename and add parking spots, gates and stands.

Ground Points are used to label things like FBOs, de-icing pads, hangars, terminals, Concourses, Ramps and other important areas at an airport. These points will be shown in GREEN.

Reporting Points such as nearby landmarks and VFR reporting points off the airport grounds will be shown in BLUE.

A 3rd ground point is a Hold Short point which is shown in YELLOW.

Parking spots/Gates/Stands can be edited or added using this Mode. For a point to be eligible to be a parking spot, it must be at the end of a taxiway, and thus having no other taxiways leading away from it. Parking spots (shown in BLACK) are spots that have had their parking information added. Potential parking spots (shown in GRAY) are spots that have not had their parking information added, but are able to be configured as parking spots.

Click on the Gate/Parking marker to open a window where you can fill in data about the spot. Name should contain the gate/stand number or letter. Terminal should be the Terminal name (the word "terminal" is optional). Type should designate if the Gate/Parking spot is Commercial, Cargo or Civil. Commercial spots should be type Gate, Cargo should be type Cargo and Civil should Ramp GA. The size of these spots can be chosen as well. It is important to chose the correct type here to insure that the AI will assign the proper spot to a pilot based on the aircraft type! We ask that even commercial parking spots without jetways still be called Gates to denote that these are still commercial spots.

Here is a quick summary of the parking types available in TaxiTuner:

General Aviation:

Ramp Small - small single engine aircraft

Ramp Medium - medium single and twin engine aircraft

Ramp Large - larger multi-passenger, multi engine aircraft

Ramp GA - Unknown general aviation aircraft - almost never used

Ramp GA Extra - as above...

Comercial Aviation:

Gate Small - smaller regional airliners (CRJ, etc)

Gate Medium - the majority of commercial airliners (B737, A320, etc)

Gate Large - the massive airliners (B777, B747, A380, etc)

Gate Extra - use for any commercial spots not associated with a physical gate

Cargo:

Ramp Cargo - cargo aircraft of any size

Military:

Ramp Military Cargo - Military Transport Aircraft

Ramp Military Combat - Military Fighters, Bombers, etc

Misc:

Dock Extra - Reserved for water based aircraft (Floatplanes)

This data can be added in bulk by first checking the Bulk Select/Edit Parking box. Draw a marquee around a group of Gates and then enter any data that's consistent across these gates such as Terminal, Type or Airlines. Be sure to click save under each item.
