Why isn’t ATC automatically telling me to descend when I reach Top of Descent (TOD)?

In the real world, the timing of descent clearances is not always precise and varies depending on many factors. Controllers typically make an educated guess on when to issue descent instructions, considering traffic flow and other situational factors. Unlike some ATC programs that "cheat" by looking at your Flight Management Computer (FMC) data, SayIntentions.AI models real-world scenarios where ATC doesn’t have access to such detailed information.

In reality, the Top of Descent (TOD) can only be accurately calculated by the pilot, as it depends on critical factors unknown to ATC, such as the aircraft’s weight and balance, descent profile specific to your aircraft, and other variables.

If you reach your calculated TOD and haven’t been cleared to descend, it’s standard practice to request descent from ATC. Just communicate your request, and ATC will accommodate it as the situation allows.

While ATC strives to manage descents efficiently, remember that in the real world, pilots are responsible for requesting descent based on their own calculations and needs.
