Installation
PocketSky is available on iOS and Android mobile devices. You can search "PocketSky by SayIntentionsAI" in either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
Login using your Pilot Portal login credentials. You can use the Forgot Password link if you've forgotten your password, and reset instructions will be emailed to you.
My Flight Tracking
On the My Flight tab, you will find a live map of your current flight. The map will include:
- Current location on the map
- Flight Path
- Origin Airport and Destination Airport ICAOs *
- True Airspeed
- Altitude
- Heading
- ETE (Estimated time Enroute) *
- Flight Plan waypoints **
* Note: The display widgets will always display known information. If you are flying VFR and have not submitted a flight plan, or entered airport information, the airport ICAOs may not show up. ETE can only be calculated when there is a Destination Airport available. ** Note: Flight Plan Waypoints will only show up when a Simbrief flight plan has been filed.
Different map layers, including satellite view an weather radar can be toggled in the Settings. (See the Settings section for more details).
Comms
The Comms tab will display your entire ATC and Flight Crew conversations in the format of a familiar mobile group chat.
What can be done on the Comms tab?
- Read through entire chat history.
- Click the play icon in the top-left of any received message to listen to the audio.
- Before sending a message, choose COM1, COM2, INT1 or INT2 (Intercom 1 and 2). This allows you to specify who you are going to be sending the message to.
- Type a message and click the paper airplane SEND icon.
- Click the microphone to start Speech-to-text so that you can speak and send messages if you prefer.
- When a frequency is given in any received message, it will show up as a Green Clickable Link. Clicking it will set you COM1 frequency automatically, exactly the same as the behavior in the Desktop SayIntentions.AI client.
Note: When you first attempt to use the speech-to-text feature, your mobile device will prompt you to Allow Microphone Access. You must allow this access for this feature to work. If Speech-to-Text feature doesn't work: be sure to check the microphone access settings for the PocketSky app in your device settings.
Frequencies
The Frequencies tab allows you to tune your COM1 and COM2 frequencies in a familiar radio stack interface.
What can be done on the Frequencies Tab?
- Type a frequency manually into a standby frequency field
- Click the transfer button to transfer it to the active frequency.
- A list of nearby frequencies are also available for quick select.
- Simply choose the COM1 or COM2 button before selecting an option to set it to active.
Important Notes: 1. The standby frequencies DO NOT SYNC with your aircraft at this time. They are simply serving as a way to input active frequencies in a familiar radio stack layout. Syncing to your aircraft standby frequencies will be a future update. 2. COM2 needs to be ON in your aircraft for COM2 frequencies to work. If you see in the SayIntentions Desktop app that COM2 is OFF, your settings for COM2 set in the mobile app won't stick. More control over this in the mobile app will be coming in the future. 3. The mobile app 2-way syncs with the SayIntentions Desktop App for COM1 and COM2 ACTIVE frequencies. This means if you change frequencies in the Desktop app, you'll see the change reflect shortly after in the mobile app. Additionally, if you set a frequency in the mobile app, you'll shortly see the change reflect in the Desktop app.
Airport Search
Need to lookup the ATIS, METAR, TAF, or radio frequencies for another airport during your flight? The Airports tab has you covered!
What can you do on the Airport Search tab?
- Search any airport ICAO
- Review the following:
- ATIS
- METAR
- TAF
- Quick Weather and Airport Stats
- Quick tune (COM1 only) to airport frequencies.
Note: At this time, this airport lookup tool will only work if there is an active SayIntentions flight detected.
Settings & Configuration
At the top-right corner of any tab, you will see the Settings Gear Icon. Click this to view and customize your settings.
In the settings, you can view/set:
- Map view
- Dark View 1
- Dark View 2
- Satellite View
- Weather Radar On/Off
- Push Notifications
- Instructor Mode
- Log Out
- Helpful Links
- Social Media Links
- Terms and Conditions & Privacy Policy Links
More details on Push Notifications in the Flight Alerts section below. More details about Instructor Mode in the Instructor Mode section below.
Flight Alerts
You're on a long haul flight and have left your simulator for a while. You don't necessarily have the PocketSky open at all times. So, how do you make sure you don't miss anything important? PocketSky's Flight Alerts via mobile push notifications has you covered!
To take advantage of Flight Alerts
- Open the settings page.
- Your device will prompt you to allow PocketSky to send push notifications. It is required to Always Allow for this feature to work properly.
- Choose which alerts you want to receive:
- ATC reaches out to me
- Flight Crew speaks on intercom
- 10 minutes from Top of Descent (TOD)
- ATC initiates my descent
- There's a cabin crisis
Important Notes: 1. Push notifications will only be sent when your flight is IN THE AIR. They will not be sent while you are on the ground/during taxi. This is because you are very likely at your simulator during these times. 2. You will not receive push notifications for every ATC response to your calls. They will only be triggered when ATC actively reaches out to you. 3. If you are not receiving push notifications. Double check that you have the desired settings set in the settings page in the PocketSky. Also, look at your notification settings for the PocketSky app in your Mobile Device Settings to make sure that notifications are always allowed.
Instructor Mode
Instructor Mode is great for SayIntentions.AI commercial users who might be conducting training sessions with students. This mode allows you to pull up the PocketSky mobile app on a phone or tablet, and tell ATC what to say.
Example Dialog with student while simulating a flight through an area with terrain.
- Student pilot is navigating towards their next flightplan waypoint, in an area with hazardous terrain.
- The instructor opens up the PocketSky app on their tablet, and types "Turn left heading 220, vectors for the ILS approach" and clicks send.
- SayIntentions.AI speaks exactly what was typed on the radio (and the student doesn't know the instructor did this).
- The student now needs to decide to confirm and follow the instruction, or prove situational awareness by responding with something like "unable, terrain".
This is a great way for instructors to take control of ATC communications and simulate specific edge-case ATC scenarios; an invaluable training tool.
How to use Instructor Mode
- Go to the PocketSky Settings
- Scroll down and toggle on Instructor Mode.
3. After the setting is toggled on, navigate back to the Comms tab. There you will see a new ATC option to select when sending messages.
4. Type your message, and the ATC controller on the COM1 Frequency will speak what you typed.
